SD Summer Sunday Soiree @ The Hotel on Rivington: Sunday Aug 3rd

Hotel on Rivington
Okay, okay, we can take a hint. So many Social Divas came out to The Hotel on Rivington during our Social Diva Summer Night last week, we realized we just had to hold another fab event at our most beloved NYC hotel.

So, without any further ado, we invite you to join us for a Social Diva Summer Sunday Soiree.
On August 3rd, we’ll be hosting a VIP party from 1:00PM to 9:00PM on the private rooftop at the The Hotel on Rivington, located at 107 Rivington. Come join us! We’ll rock to the sounds of a killer DJ, nibble on delish gourmet bar food, sip specialty cocktails (your first one is on them), and enjoy the gorgeous sunset.

Private rooftops are the place to be this summer – and if their penthouse is any indication, the Riv’s roof is the swankiest in town. So use Saturday to do your resting up this weekend, because Sunday is going to be too fabulous to miss!

Ford's Flex Arriving Soon-Atlanta

null
For any diva who's in the market for a new car, Ford's new Flex might be just what you're looking for. Not to be confused with the carpooling service that was once called Flex but is now Zipcar, Flex is Ford's latest model to be released in Atlanta this fall. Part of what makes a diva a diva is her individuality. The new Flex offers the perfect opportunity for your wheels to reflect the qualities that make you unique. The options available to customize your car just for you are endless, and the Flex comes in a rainbow of fabulous colors. It seats up to 7, so it's perfect for taking the girls around town on a night out. Each of the your girls can gaze up at the city lights through the sunroof over each seat, enjoy a video on the DVD player, or listen to music from an Ipod, which can be plugged right into the car's USB port. If a friend brings along a CD that you just love, you can actually rip and burn it right there in the car! And if you're taking your girls on a road trip, you won't have to worry about dragging a cooler along, as the Flex has a cooler inside that can keep your water bottles cold or even your ice cream frozen!

Aside from all of its features that are just plain fun, a year's subscription to Sirius comes with the car, which includes a road navigation system as well a slew of voice-activated commands that can help you find gas stations, hospitals or even nearby restaurants. Just say “Call the office,” or “I'm hungry,” and the car will take car of the rest! If only men were this easy...

Healthful Dining Options-Atlanta

Health-nut divas need not despair! Eating out (especially in the South) and eating healthily almost seem to contradict each other. But before you call off your dinner plans, read on! Yes, it is possible to dine out in Atlanta, enjoy delicious food, and not feel as though you're un-doing the benefits of all your workouts, yoga classes, green teas, goji berries and flax seeds. For all of my health-conscious and/or vegetarian divas out there, this one's for you! I've recently dined at a couple of restaurants right here in the A that are not too fru-fru but offer meals that you can sink your teeth into without worrying about what your personal trainer would say.

Downtown:
Dynamic Dish
427 Edgewood Ave.

The simplicity of the décor reflects the quality of the food: nothing overdone or over-the-top; the food is good enough to speak for itself and the diner need not be distracted by anything else. The menu changes daily and consists of fresh, local ingredients. I went for lunch and had a rosemary tofu wrap with carrots, onions and pesto in a sun-dried tomato tortilla, served with fresh grapes on the side. The wrap was a unique and welcome change from the usual wraps filled with lettuce, tomatoes and the like. Also on the menu that day were millet cakes, a selection of unique sandwiches and salads, and some very yummy-sounding baked goods. I felt perfectly satisfied after my wrap, and, being vegan, did not order any of the sweets from the bakery, but had I felt so inclined, I could have ordered a bowl of cherries to satisfy my sweet tooth and I could have chosen between a number of small cartons of fruit to take home with me, including figs (a personal favorite!). The service was extremely pleasant and the prices very reasonable. (Most items $10 or under) Dynamic Dish is also now open for dinner Thursday-Saturday, so I'll have to make plans for an evening trip some time soon.

Druid Hills/Decatur:
Mezza

I was expecting the usual selection of hummus, tabbouleh, grape leaves and falafel when I decided to try this tucked-away Lebanese bistro, but was quite surprised to find an extensive menu full of dishes I'd never encountered before. When I asked for a recommendation, I was told, “It's all my mother's cooking, but…” and our server proceeded to give us a couple of welcome suggestions. My friend and I shared the ever-popular mousaka'a at his recommendation, which was excellent, but we also branched out and tried a couple of lesser-known dishes. One that I particularly enjoyed was the hindbeh: Swiss chard, spinach, and caramelized onions with garlic and lemon. It wasn't soaking in oil and did not have the sogginess that so often plagues cooked greens. Fantastic! I also tried a dish called “kabees,” which consisted of pickled turnips, cucumbers and eggplant. Very tangy, full of flavor and a bold complement to the milder mousaka'a and hindbeh. Pita bread accompanied the meal, of course, but another unexpected treat was an olive oil and sesame-based dip that was yet another delicious first for me. In addition to a huge selection of entrees, a substantial wine list, and many desserts, (including more than one type of baklava to choose from!) the menu featured a variety of cold drinks made from ingredients such as rose water, raisins and mulberries. I wanted to try them all! My friend and I split 4 dishes, had a glass of wine and each paid just over $20.

Seasons 52
90 Perimeter Center West (By Perimeter Mall)

3050 Peachtree Road
(404) 846-1552

While not exactly new to the Atlanta restaurant scene, it took me a while to make my way to Seasons 52 and I was very glad that I did! With a menu that offers dishes that change with the seasons, Seasons 52 has a wide selection of smaller appetizers, soups, salads, sandwiches and larger entrees. Plus, you can indulge your sweet tooth without feeling too guilty, as they come in adorable shot-sized glasses. Being a vegan, I love my vegetables, but have found many pricey and well-known restaurants to have vegetable plates that are very “blah” and many have been unable to come up with vegetarian selections outside of pasta, rice or salad. I was really impressed with the plate at Seasons 52; on one plate I had: half a bell pepper stuffed with tabbouleh; roasted carrots, asparagus and tomatoes; mushrooms; yellow beets; caramelized onions; a small tofu fillet; and a tomatillo and avocado dip to dunk it all in. It was superb! The flavor of the vegetables was robust and even my non-vegetarian companion was eye-ing my plate and licking her lips. As there was just a small serving of each item, I left feeling satisfied but not overly stuffed. Another benefit to Seasons 52 is that they post all of their nutritional information online. If you feel so inclined, you can make an informed decision about what you want to eat.

Bon appetit!
