Martini Girl
She’s full of wit, and tough without losing her femininity, at least according to her creatrix. She’s Martini-Girl! The brainchild of artist-by-training, Eva-Maria Connolly, Martini-Girl made her debut on canvas in 1991 as Connolly’s beautiful, sexy, vixen-like alter-ego.
By 2000, Connolly began focusing on the line of Martini-Girl art and fashion full-time. The marriage of comic art and pop art, Martini-Girl sports a red hot attitude and red hair, which Connolly chose because it transcends cultural barriers and allows Martini-Girl to be Caucasian, African-American or Asian, depending on the piece.
While Connolly initially focused on Martini-Girl art, it wasn’t long before she was making Martini-Girl clothing for family and friends. Now, she shows the line at 30 art festivals per year. Her full-blown fashion shows feature models of all shapes, sizes, and genders (yes, Martini-Girl is also for boys!) in red wigs.
The men’s loungewear collection and smoking jackets are particularly popular. On the whole, the collection is “dressy with flair” and offers options for daytime, clubbing and elegant occasions. Everything is custom designed, one-of-a-kind, and heavily infused with Asian influences.
Connolly recently closed her East Atlanta boutique and is scouting out new space, which will be a combo gallery/boutique and mix the art and fashion that Martini-Girl—like so many divas—embodies.
In the meantime, visit the Martini-Girl web site (www.martini-girl.com) where Social Diva subscribers enjoy 10% off artwork and custom fashion orders through June 30, 2006. Or, if you’re in the area, check out the Donna Van Gogh boutique at the Artist Market, 1651 McLendon Avenue NE in Atlanta (404-370-1003).
